Urban Development

I wonder if there is a correlation between the number of bike paths a city has and its level of urban development. One would be inclined to say yes, but I’m still curious. As I continue my quest to purchase a bike, I’ve been paying careful attention to what my possible routes would be from my apartment to the office or the studio. Since Miami is one of the least-friendly pedestrian cities (there has to be a correlation between this and urban development) I would need a well-defined bike path along side the road. So far I’ve found a partial route that has a bike path that just disappears into nowhere. Killer. Literally.

I wonder how this compares to bike paths in San Francisco and New York? From what I remember from my trip to San Fran last week, every road has a bike path. Never really paid much attention in NY, but since its such a pedestrian-friendly place, I can’t imagine that there wouldn’t be. I wonder how LA compares to Miami; there might be a similarity between the two.

Anyways, I’m still searching for the perfect cheap mountain bike that can handle the shitty Miami roads. Any ideas?
