Madrid Part 2….

So I did the museum thing today….

Went to El Museo Nacional del Prado. I had the opportunity to see some amazing works of art… I especially enjoyed the extensive selection of works of art by Velázquez, including “Las Meninas,” which is one of my favorite pieces of art. In addition to Diego V’s stuff, I saw some pieces representative of diverse European eras of art. Among them, pieces by Van Weyden, Tiziano, El Greco, and Goya. I’ll post some JPEGs of my favorite pieces eventually - I decided to forego that whole “take pictures of the art at the museum” thing, so I’ll find them somewhere and post them eventually.

Afterward, I headed over to el Jardín Botanico de Madrid. Took some photos there, but mostly of landscapes - there wasn’t too much in bloom. I had initially hoped to use the garden as a shortcut to another museum, but when I got to the other end of the garden, I realized there was no exit save for the entrance. So I walked back….

I later headed over to el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte de la Reina Sofia (mind you, I have walked everywhere that I’ve gone to) after el Jardín. They had a special exhibit on Dalí, which was my main reason for heading over there…

Oh, how Mr. Aloma would be proud. Saw some great works from Dalí, one of my favorite artists, including some cells from a movie he was supposed to do with Walt Disney. (These have never before been seen by the public, apparently.) It never made it to the silver screen - Dalí’s work freaked Walt out - but some of the non-erotic shots looked strangely reminiscent of scenes from Fantasia…. I wonder….
