SXSW Interactive: Panel Picking Advice
Every year, I do my best to pick SXSW panels that will be educational, engaging, and interesting. Over the last three years, I’ve developed a really simple set of rules for picking panels.
They’re not perfect, and occasionally I miss out on a panel or group session that I should have attended, but 95% of the time, they work. And if I stack that up against anyone else’s SXSW...

Hanging out in Frankfurt
Just landed in Frankfurt, Germany. 3 hour layover after a 10 hour flight. Adam and I are on our way to Nice to meet up with the rest of the team. Traveling always gets me motivated to start up my blog again.
This time is no different.
Blog Posts = Active.

Neocartography: Mapping Design and Usability...
Designers are dropping maps into their applications with little concern for usability or design and users are getting “Google Map fatigue”. We need to move beyond the simple pin-dropping and consider appropriate mapping interfaces. This panel will look at the current and emerging tools to provide compelling geographic interaction and visualization.

The Life of an iPhone App: Nasty, Brutish and... →
Interesting take from Pinch Media and Gizmodo on the life of the iPhone app.
Sure, it’s kinda bleak (especially as an iPhone developer), but one has to believe that the extreme amount of clutter and the less than ideal searching mechanism of the App Store is contributing to this problem.
Add to this the difficult nature of updating apps, the review system that doesn’t take into...

iPhone App Index →
The folks at iPhone App Index have done a pretty sweet job of giving developers an opportunity to self-promote their apps. It’s a spin-off from the successful iPhone App Reviews and it allows developers to post info on their app, from press releases to screenshots. Check it out.

Stupidity
Is manually bringing all my old Blogger posts into Tumblr, one by one.
But I kinda think it will be fun to reminisce.
And there will definitely be some broken links.

So I packed up all my things and I moved to Portland, Oregon. It’s absolutely beautiful out here. People are friendly, the scene is chill, and the new opportunities are endless.

Baseball
There are few constants in life. But when everything around you is in flux, there’s always the beauty of baseball. Simple and yet complex, but always forgiving, always relaxing.
Thank God for baseball.

What a difference a few years makes
Every once in a while (after a few drinks and a smoke of the hooka) I like to reflect on things. I think it’s mostly the hooka, not the drinks. I’ve got this weakness for strawberry tobacco. Anyways, my latest reflection focuses on my career, friendships, and a few of the other things preoccupying my life. I’d like to say that this is progress, but I think it’s difficult to...

So I thought I’d post something….
I don’t even know if anyone reads this blog anymore, but I thought I’d drop a line out there. Things have been going well the last 10 months or so. Working at a new digs since May 2005, and loving every minute of it. Almost done w/ the Egypt documentary (just a voiceover away) and I’ll be seeking distribution for it. Still living in...

My Bologna has a first name, it's P-A-C-O...
So in this latest news headline from CNN, some dude trying to smuggle 800 lbs of bologna across the US-Mexico border gets caught. The Department of Homeland Security reports that the source of the smuggled bologna could not be verified, and therefore; it had to be destroyed.
Now I have two questions.
1. Doesn’t the Department of Homeland Security have better things to be doing with...

Urban Development
I wonder if there is a correlation between the number of bike paths a city has and its level of urban development. One would be inclined to say yes, but I’m still curious. As I continue my quest to purchase a bike, I’ve been paying careful attention to what my possible routes would be from my apartment to the office or the studio. Since Miami is one of the least-friendly pedestrian...

Useful Day
So I got a lot done today.
1. Tested a bike
2. Rode around south beach for 30 minutes.
3. Decided not to impulsively purchase a bike that was remarkably less than what i expected to pay.
4. Decided i would continue testing various brands of bikes till i was pleased with the seat and suspension.
5. Noted to myself that i do not want to spend more than 300 dollars on an item i know will wind...

The Game
What’s the first rule of the Game? There is no game.
So basically this is the greatest way to annoy a room full of people (i.e. your coworkers) during the day. You start by losing your game bc you thought of it. Then they ask you what game (this is the only way to introduce new people to the game.) You then proceed to tell them the rules. Any time they think of the game, they must...
